The Audio Essay
This piece built off of my 7th grade literacy narrative. We learned a lot of tips for this type of project, but one of the rules that impacted this piece the most was that one of the characters needs to make an important decision which impacts the piece. With this in mind, I made my piano teacher's choice much more explicit and reflected on it at multiple points in the essay. The second largest revision from the 7th grade literacy narrative was how much stuff I realized I was going to have to cut out in order to fit the time constraints. I tried to avoid cutting too many sections rather condensing them by removing sentences that weren't absolutely necessary, like my daily walk from the school to my piano teacher's house. As I developed the audio essay through revision, I mostly worked on pacing, maintaining the same voice throughout the piece, and making sure to incorporate pauses in key areas to allow the listener to reflect and prepare for the next section.
An earlier draft of my audio essay is available to the right. Many people had noted an occasionally recurring southern drawl which I worked to eliminate in the final product.
